December 30, 1956. A slow day at No.7 Engine Company.
Someone is cooking, a card game is going on and another guy is taking a shower.

A little later, the card game ends, dinner is ready, and someone is still in the shower.

Thirty-five year veteran Fireman Owen Gallagher had been taking a shower. He is found on the shower floor unresponsive.

Efforts to revive the 60 year old are useless. Gallagher has spent his last shift in the Firehouse.

He is survived by his wife, two sisters, and two brothers.

Rest in Peace Owen Gallagher, you will always be remembered.Image attachmentImage attachment+1Image attachment

December 28, 1983. At 15:35, 8 Truck is responding to a water main break in Highland Park. They are driving along Sheridan Avenue about to turn right onto Stanton.

Emergency lights are on and the siren is wailing. At the intersection of Stanton Avenue, the driver does not see a car approaching the intersection from his left and continues on.

Suddenly a car traveling on Stanton appears before them. The driver applies the breaks but it is too late. 8 Truck crashes into the passenger side of the station wagon driven by PG reporter Albert Neri.

At the point of impact, 47 year old Fire Lieutenant Leon Morris is propelled from his seat of the open cab and impacts a parked car then lands on the street. The truck driver impacts the steering wheel and is injured.

The tiller operator is also injured, he is treated at Shadyside Hospital and released.

The truck driver and the driver of the car are both admitted to Shadyside for their injuries.

Lt. Leon Morris is taken to Presbyterian Hospitals Trauma Center. He hangs on for an hour before he dies from his injuries.

Leon Morris, an 18 year veteran of the PBF, was survived by his wife, two daughters and grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Rest in Peace Leon you are not forgotten by your Brothers.Image attachmentImage attachment+2Image attachment
